Hi Jenni,
Just caught up with your story and I'm so very sorry about the knee. I do hope they can do something to ease the pain after that op. If it is a knee replacement, they are so good now and its not unusual for them to last 25 years or even more. With rheumatoid patients being limited mobility wise anyway, we arent so hard on our replacements!

Can understand your feelings about being in hospital on Bernie's birthday bless her, I remember the separation from my 3 when in hospital as if it was yesterday. They on the other hand dont seem to be at alll affected by itRollEyes

So glad you have a wonderful family around you, but so very sorry to hear of Katherine's stroke. Do hope she is recovering and not too badly affected. These autoimmune diseases have such an impact on families.

Thinking of you very much today Jenni and hope the ortho team come up with something positive for you.

Love, Lizx

Thanks everyone for your kind messages of support

Bernie had a lovely birthday
In the morning, she didn't twig it was actually the day until richard told her. All she kept saying was 'we go a see mummy aday'
She opened some things at home including a neighing hobby horse Michael bought her
I watched the clock and did a quick prayer at 11.30 thanking God once again for the gift of a baby.

They arrived here after church ( where everyone sang to bernice and made a right fuss)
Straight away bernie said 'I 4 mummy I reeeeeely 4!'
We had snuggle on my bed- putting her face right next to mine and she put her legs round and I gazed at her like I did that very first day... Sigh....

We went to burger king (theres one in the hospital) in the lift and the pain was bad but I bit my lip and got there
Bernie suddenly cried
'want go home'
'want mummy- havva go a home'
'want mummy'

She settled again with a gentle cuddle and a rocking
I said we all want mummy home and I'm here so the drs can help me to get home.

Michael snuck his hand into mine over the chips ;)

My mum and Katherine arrived and produced a chocolate birthday cake and candles we lit them quick before anyone can complain and sang happy birthday

We all went up in the lift again and I got back on the bed.

Then Katherine, weak left hand and all, produced a parcel. On went michaels I pod and we all played pass the parcel!
Even the oldies joined in...
And the nurses..
Birthday girl won a rag dolly and announced her name was 'pretty' which seemed right.
I gave bernice her balloon and she cuddled me for ages
Then I had a long cuddle with Michael
Bernie said 'thank you for my luffly birthday and luffly party- ok mummy- luff you'

She went to my parents with Michael and richard and got a big surprise present of a fab dolls house. They all had grandmas special toad in the hole for tea (yum!)

I had a little cry with richard before he went- the children had gone with my mum

But I was ok

I've just had my scan and I don't have any blood clot causing the swelling so, in theory, can have the op.
waiting to see surgical team now.
Love to all

Jenni xx

Oh bless little Bernice.....and Michael! Glad you all had a good time but I know just how you felt having to say goodbye to her. I had to miss Hannah's 7th birthday party when I was in hospital and have felt guilty ever since.......she of course can't even remember it!

Glad you have no blood clot on your knee and I've still got everything crossed that they will do the replacement quickly for you.

Love and hugs, Doreen xx

Got surgical team on phone to the nurses. Really they thought I was discharged and rheumatology and pain clinics responsibility. They are cross that they are responsible and need them now...

Nurse says let the dr teams fight it out in the morning...

Urgh

Hi Jenni,

I see you are in hospital too, fingers X'd you get the knee replacement. That was a lovely time with Bernice and all the family for a special hospital birthday. I feel for you, you are such a lovely cheerful person and you have been through so much, yet you still keep smiling. I know.... what else is there to do.

All good wishes to you and your family and I really hope you get some peace from this awful RA.

Sending lots of love Lorna xx Smile

Hello Jenni

I wish there was not inter office politics, why dont someone just take responsibility and get you better and home. If they all put their heads together just maybe things would go right for you grrrrr... Sorry angry on your behalf.

Sending you lots of love and good wishes.

Quick update
Very tearful morning as surgeon explained my knee isn't able to manage surgery right now and I can't have anything for a good 6 wks then need to decide whether to go on the list which will be at least 16 wks.
Even if the knee is done the pain may not stop
I have something called 'synovial condromatosis' so even after the knee is done the inflammatory process will return and scar right up and stop me moving and there will be the pain.
The tissue sample confirms 'aggressive rheumatoid disease' in all cells examined..
Really gutted
On the plus side I saw a pain management nurse today who was really good
Going to try and help me
Not put off by complex immune things and stuff
Wants to arrange an mdt

One more thing though Old grumpy lady next to me. Everything's wrong- the sheets too scratchy, beds lumpy, cup is too cold, sheet isn't straight etc. She moans lots... Never been in hospital in her life before- now 86... Had a Gaul bladder op.... Fully recovered... Now moaning because someone has offered meals on wheels and cleaning for her . Deaf as a post but takes her hearing aids off to watch her tv on head phones at deafening level- falls asleep in 10 mins of having it on...Good grief it's exhausting...Bernie came to visit with richard Everyone on the ward making a lovely fuss of my newly 4 yr old who's mummy was in hosp for her birthday.
She was very good She came and sat with me carefully and did her mr tumble magazine.
She enjoyed her curly whirly crisps ( hula hoops) and settled well.
In the last 5 mins we did singing. We did hop little bunnies and dingle dangle scarecrow.
Old grumpy lady tutted
Old grumpy lady rolled her eyes
Old grumpy lady said 'for pity sake'

Old lady has now complained that bernie was 'running everywhere' and she couldn't hear her programme on tv.'no control over children these days- she needs a damn good hiding that one'

I'm so shocked by this
Bernie is a happy little girl who is 4
She is sometimes a bit on the lively side but she was being so very good.
What's wrong with people???!
Richard says from the nursing perspective- it's often the ones with the least wrong that moan the most.
Actually I wonder if this grumpy lady thinks that her constant moaning is somehow being funny...

Hi Jenni,

Richard is right about the ones with the least wrong moaning the most. I saw this when I was nursing and I have noticed it more and more since I've had RA, especially with my sisters. I quietly get on with it while they moan about the least little ache.

I understand what the surgeon said about your knee because I was told the same thing by a surgeon recently.....whatever I have done to my knee won't stop the RA pain but may help me function better. At least if you have the replacement it might help your mobility.
Good luck with the pain management, I hope they can help you a lot and minimise your pain levels.

And take no notice of the grumpy old ****** sorry, ladies. We all know you are a fantastic Mum and Bernie is a credit to you.

Love and hugs, Doreen xx

Me too! So sorry about your meeting today. Hopefully the pain management team can do something for you.

How could the old witch hear you singing if she's deaf? It makes you want to scream. Never mind Jenni it's halloween soon she'll be off on her broomstick to join the other old bats.

Love and prayers

Mrs Angry is here too !

She is just a pathetic jealous old woman, its only because she is so miserable and sad with her own life that she just can t bear to see others happy ! It grieves me to say it but sadly she in not unique.

Really sorry to hear the latest news on the knee, it has gone through so much with the surgery, it is a very poor knee indeed. Reassuring news with the pain management nurse, you need lots of support in that department just now, as ever Jenni your one strong woman and one to be admired.

With love Julia xx
